AJ Consultants has been retained by a long-time partner, Fidelity Cooperative Bank ($1.6B), to lead a search for an SVP, Commercial Banking that will target commercial banking relationships across Central and Eastern Massachusetts.

This role can sit in any of the bank’s offices, hybrid or fully remote with limited travel to HQ for occasional team meetings.

We are targeting both individual contributor and player-coach level talent, therefore multiple positions are available. Fidelity Bank has an established practice serving high-quality C&I and CRE commercial relationships throughout Greater Boston. The ideal candidates are revenue and deposit generating commercial relationship bankers with strong C&I or (C&I/CRE) generalist backgrounds.

SVP, Commercial Banking

SUMMARY: Seasoned commercial lending profession who, under the direction of the EVP, Chief Lending Officer, is responsible for generating and maintaining a portfolio of business in line with the Bank’s policies and procedures for asset quality and portfolio growth.

  • Utilizing the Life Design process call on prospective and existing clients to nurture ongoing relationships and identify opportunities for Bank products and services.
  • Produce commercial loans in line with the Bank’s Lending Policy and credit culture.
  • Generate a network of referral sources for loan opportunities.
  • Actively identify and refer cross selling opportunities to other areas of the Bank.
  • Contribute to the achievement of Commercial Team goals as it relates to revenue & portfolio growth, asset quality and compliance.
  • Attendance at industry and Bank sponsored events to enhance and strengthen existing client relationships and expand professional network
  • Promote the Bank’s image in the community through participation in business, social and civic group activities.
  • Formulate loan structures that best protect the Bank and meet the needs of the client.
  • Facilitate loan closings with the assistance of the Portfolio Manager.
  • Attend loan closings
  • Perform regular site visits to existing client base.
  • Aid in the management of criticized and work out credits as assigned.
  • Work with the SVP Chief Credit Officer and Portfolio Manager to ensure all managed relationships are appropriately risk rated.
  • Monitor assigned portfolio for red flags (bankruptcies, late payments, past due taxes etc) and take appropriate action to minimize the risk to the Bank associated with these issues.
  • Serve as a mentor to junior team members to assist in their professional development.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, finance or accounting or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience as a commercial lender
  • Experience as a commercial credit analyst preferred or similar sound credit background.
  • Knowledge of Small Business Administration guaranty programs.
  • Strong analytical, verbal, interpersonal and written communication skills.
  • Strong negotiation and sales ability.
  • Must be a responsible and independent worker who can interact well with other members of the Commercial Team.
  • Ability to handle sensitive and confidential situations and documentation.
  • Ability to prioritize and multi-task.
