In partnership with Sandy Spring Bank, AJ Consultants LLC has been retained for their Senior Credit Officer-Special Assets role in Reston, Virginia. This role, is responsible for managing the Special Assets personnel and that segment of the Bank’s credit approval, administration and review activities.
Responsible for credit quality monitoring and providing input into the development and implementation of sound account workout policies and procedures. This person will work with Relationship Managers and Market Leaders as well as the Special Assets staff on the approval of loan workout strategies to minimize any potential losses to the Bank. Identifies potential problem credits and guides the restructure and/or exit strategy. The Senior Credit Officer will manage the teams, chair the monthly and quarterly watch list meeting, prepare and present to executive leadership, develop and implement the banks credit policy and procedures for workout and special assets , etc.

MAJOR JOB ACCOUNTABILITIES:
- Management of Teams
Oversees team of loan workout officers and staff personnel. Lead and develop team
members by standardizing work templates, and manage work flow capacities.
- Chair Monthly and Quarterly Watch List Meeting
Chairs the monthly and quarterly watch list meetings with line leadership, senior management to review the past due loans and any special assets loans being management by the department or by the line. Responsible for minutes from these meetings. - Prepare and present reports for executive management
Responsible for preparing and presenting reports, including projections for the monthly CRC Trend meetings. - Portfolio Management:
Manage a loan portfolio consisting of large, complex commercial real estate and/or specialized substandard or criticized credits to minimize credit losses, ensure return matches risk and, where possible, return customers to a satisfactory rating. Recommends appropriate workout plans on these credits which translate into acceptable payments or in the alternative, moves the account towards foreclosure/liquidation. Consults on deteriorating complex credits and recommends the appropriate course of action in handling a problem account. Appropriately monitors the progress of workout accounts and recommends any required changes in action necessary to minimize loss or prevent losses. - Development and Implementation of Bank Credit Policy, Procedures and Work Standards for Special Assets:
Identifies, develops and recommends revision of internal standards, policies, operating procedures and new programs to improve efficiency within the Special Assets area. Monitors compliance with policy for assigned areas. - Key Business Partner:
Works with line staff and managers on the rehabilitation or work-through of loans, ensuring that the credits adhere to existing credit policy guidelines whenever appropriate.
Assists with training, development and coordination of special asset officers, portfolio managers and credit analysts when the opportunity exists. Provides guidance and coaching to ensure loan presentations are completed professionally and meet standards of
quality. Work closely with the Chief Credit Officer. Participate in pipeline meetings to provide guidance on structure, concentration levels, portfolio management, asset quality, etc.
- Compliance:
Ensures conformity with all laws and regulations affecting commercial loans. From time to time, may be called upon to work as a liaison with loan reviewers, state and fed examiners, as needed.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field.
- 10+ years of Commercial Real Estate and Acquisition Development and Construction
Loan workout experience. Strong knowledge of CRE credit analyses and monitoring progress in consideration of market trends, credit/interest rates, economic conditions and other related factors. Track record of increasingly responsible job related experience.
- 5+ years of experience in a senior leadership role
- Proven interpersonal skills with a strong focus in being able to influence and facilitate
cooperation among staff and those departments with which this department has direct,
frequent interaction.
- Experience with personal computer systems to effectively develop reports and analyses
using standard desktop processing software.
SPECIFIC PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Work requires reasonable mobility in and around the work area. Ability to use standard computer and phone systems is required.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
- Normal office environment where there is almost no discomfort due to temperature, dust, noise, or other disagreeable elements.
- Work includes little or no potential exposure to hazardous conditions.
- Must be able to travel throughout SSB footprint as needed.
