In partnership with DC Green Bank, AJ Consultants has been retained to find their next Sr. Director of Origination. DC Green Bank is an innovative financial solution provider supporting District businesses, organizations, and residents on the path to a cleaner future. They are building a diverse, talented and passionate team to help carry out this mission.

The Director/Sr. Director of Origination is responsible for managing all aspects of DC Green Bank’s day-to-day origination process including the overall management of loan inquiry and referral platforms through assignments to Deal Leads, the development of a diverse and growing investment opportunity pipeline, and the creation of market intelligence and analytics across the bank’s priority sectors. The Director/Sr. Director will also work with the bank’s executive leadership to articulate the bank’s origination and go-to-market strategy and evolve it as necessary to meet the market’s needs. The position will be responsible for working with bank leadership to develop, deploy, and manage financial offerings and loan fund activities, while pursuing avenues to secure additional capital funding from outside sources. The Director/Sr. Director will engage with public agencies, commercial enterprises, banks, and other public-serving stakeholders and actively develop new products that address market barriers and are aligned with the organization’s mission.

Investment Opportunity Pipeline and Market Strategy Development

  • Lead the growth and diversification of DC Green Bank’s investment opportunity pipeline for all of the bank’s priority sectors, optimizing for climate and social impact, institutional sustainability, and deal quality. This will include building and maintaining relationships with key stakeholders such as District agencies (e.g. DOEE, DMPED, DDOT, DGS, DHCD, etc.) to leverage resources and align our products and offerings to their programs and initiatives.
  • Develop in coordination with the bank’s executive leadership and manage a range of financial products and programs using market-proven models and methodologies that address gaps in financing availability and support the mission of DC Green Bank.
  • Work with DCGB staff to conduct ongoing market analysis to evaluate DCGB capital deployment strategies’ success, refine them, and drive DCGB capital resources’ future allocation.
  • Develop and implement strategies for the assessment and implementation of new financial products (loan funds, dedicated program funding) and strategies in the green building sector, Including energy and water efficiency, net zero buildings, clean power, electrification, and climate resilience.
  • Support the CIO and work in collaboration with the Director/Sr. Director of Credit Administration on accountability systems and overall process improvements. Co-develop and implement analytic tools to strengthen the investment risk management process.
  • Stay abreast of sustainability trends, financing products, and legislation that directly affects DC Green Bank, our stakeholders, and constituents; keep clients and client pipeline apprised of current trends and organizational happenings.
  • Provide relationship management to program applicants and project participants.
  • Develop strategies to market and increase utilization of DC Green Bank products.

Transaction Management

  • Collaborate closely with the Director/Sr. Director of Credit Administration to implement consistent processes and standards across origination and risk management, and to ensure the successful execution of origination, underwriting, loan closing, loan servicing, asset management, and risk management.
  • Work with the underwriter to facilitate due diligence activities and provide a comprehensive evaluation and risk analysis of investment opportunities. t
  • Structure and negotiate financing terms of DCGB’s financing and investments with counterparties and partners.
  • Work with investment team to develop and maintain a pipeline of transactions that align with DCGB’s mission and programmatic requirements.
  • Monitor and manage the investment team’s loan closings, including collection of due diligence items as well as review of loan documentation.
  • Work with the investment team to establish realistic closing dates and provide regular loan closing updates to the executive management team.
  • Provide regular updates to executives on developing existing and new programs, transactions, and investment pipeline activities.

Stakeholder Engagement

  • Lead the engagement and outreach with District and federal government agencies, commercial businesses, local investors, and local banks to secure long-term partnerships and investments that play an integral role in sustainability, energy, and environmental investment.
  • Support grant writing and reporting as needed for projects or programs on behalf of DC Green Bank.
  • Serve as an internal expert on public financing and as a critical liaison to District agencies and other key stakeholders including (e.g. DOEE, DMPED, DDOT, DGS, DHCD, etc.)
  • Work with the communications team to develop and implement strategies for community engagement that support the originations pipeline.
  • Represent DC Green Bank at events and outreach opportunities.
  • Manage relationships with financial partners, contractors, and other stakeholders.
  • Contribute relevant information and research content to internal and outward-facing communication venues.

DCGB Capacity Building

  • Promote a culture of equal access and inclusive prosperity within the organization.
  • Foster and support junior members of the investment team, particularly Deal Leads working on business development activities, and mentor their careers.
  • Work alongside the Chief Investment Officer to grow DC Green Bank’s expertise across the bank’s priority sectors, through training and experiential learning for all team members.
